XXVI INTERNATIONAL TRAINING SESSION IN COMMEDIA DELL'ARTE
Directed by Antonio Fava - Reggio Emilia, Italy
26th  July – 19th August 2010

Commedia dell'Arte:
Is appearance in 16th Century Italy, its spread and adaptation throughout Europe, marked a highly important turning point in the history of the western Theatre: with it, the Theatre changed from ritualistic and amateurish to actual profession (art).
The new actor was born, someone who possessed a personal acting "know-how".
This gave rise to the Modern Theatre.
Commedia dell'Arte as presented nowadays, is an exacting discipline where practical ability and know-how are essential for those who intend to make the Theatre their career.

The intention of the International School of Comic Acting is to extend and deeply examine the form of artistic activity covered by the practical Training Session in 'Commedia dell'Arte'. The School sets out to teach forms of comic acting that are strictly theatrical. From a cultural viewpoint, the programme is based on a comic quality rooted in great European traditions, where the Commedia is an inevitable starting and reference point used to reach the “present day", nourished by the strong desire to develop something that has never been seen before.

COURSE SUBJECTS
  • Classic Commedia dell'Arte (zannesca)
